Surgical Expertise with a Personal Approach
Matt Ives is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon based in London. His private practice focuses on hand and wrist surgery, skin surgery and reconstructive care, supported by extensive experience in trauma and complex reconstruction.
Known for his clear communication and meticulous surgical technique, Matt believes patients should feel informed, supported and confident throughout their treatment journey.
Matt is currently the Clinical Lead of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare, London. In addition to this leadership role, he is the Training Programme Director for the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery Higher Surgical Training Programme, helping to develop the next generation of plastic surgeons.
Beyond his clinical practice, Matt is a regular faculty member on the Liverpool Open Tibia Course and is actively involved in charitable work, supporting the training of surgeons in Myanmar in the field of limb reconstruction.
Training & Specialist Expertise
Matt graduated from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Medicine before completing specialist plastic surgery training across London and the South East.
His training included significant time at the internationally renowned Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, recognised for its pioneering contribution to plastic and reconstructive surgery. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training at St Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns in Chelmsford, one of the UK's leading specialist plastic surgery units.
Matt further developed his expertise through the Extremity Reconstruction Fellowship at Imperial College Healthcare, gaining advanced experience in complex trauma, limb reconstruction and reconstructive surgery.
This specialist training underpins his approach to hand surgery, skin surgery and reconstructive care, combining meticulous surgical technique with a focus on achieving the best possible functional and aesthetic outcomes for patients.
Leadership, Teaching & International Work
Matt remains actively involved in the training and development of future plastic surgeons alongside his clinical practice. He is currently the Clinical Lead of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and serves as Training Programme Director for the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery Higher Surgical Training Programme.
In addition to his leadership roles, Matt is a regular faculty member on the Liverpool Open Tibia Course, helping to train surgeons in the management of complex lower limb trauma and reconstruction.
Matt is also committed to international surgical education and charitable work, supporting the training of surgeons in Myanmar in the field of limb reconstruction and reconstructive surgery.
Alongside his clinical practice, Matt is a Bond Solon-trained expert witness and has prepared over 300 medicolegal reports.
